description LITTLE BASIN, once a retreat and campground for Hewlett Packard employees, is a 534-acre California State Park campground that was recently added to Big Basin Redwoods State Park through a collaborative endeavor with the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) and the Sempervirens Fund. Through an innovative approach to park operations and a public/private partnership, Little Basin will be run by the long-established non-profit management organization United Camps, Conferences, and Retreats (UCCR). Families and groups of four or more can camp in this majestic redwood forest with its expansive meadows. Just a short drive from the Bay Area, Little Basin features beautiful group camping areas, 38 tent campsites in the redwoods, and 12 cabins with bunk beds and mattresses. Several of the tent sites can accommodate RVs and tent trailers. Note: Large organized groups of 20 or more, please call UCCR directly at 831-338-3314 to reserve any of the group camping areas. Setting Little Basin apart is a recreation hall, tennis and basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, two grassy sport fields, a group BBQ area, and a playground. There are also miles and miles of trails to enjoy. During the summer season, there are weekend campfire programs, guided nature hikes, and other educational programs included with the camping fee. The camp has two restroom/shower houses; each campsite has a campfire ring with an attached grill, a picnic table, and a food locker. Most sites can accommodate two cars, either side by side or in tandem. Families and groups do all their own cooking, but there is a large picnic and BBQ area and a kitchen available for an extra fee to large groups. For more detailed information about the camp, please visit the webpage at www.littlebasin.org Check the State Parks website for additional information on the weather, suggested day hikes, or to see the park brochure, campground map, park photos, video, and more. Information available will vary from park to park. Click here
drivingDirection The camp is approximately 6 miles north of the town of Boulder Creek on Highway 236. Little Basin Road meets Hwy 236 at the entrance to the Sempervirens Outdoor Science School; easy to miss. If you get all the way to Big Basin State Park, you passed it!
